This picture was taken during the depression when folks were not very happy. I also have another group family picture I will post soon. These are my grandparents whom I never knew. When I was a child, I met Ida who was in a wheelchair due to a broken hip.

Because the winters were long, cold and difficult; it was common especially in farming families to have many children. After all, it kept them warm in the winter and provided numerous farm hands to work the fields.
I don’t know how long Nels & Ida were married; probably the better part of 50+ years. I don’t think folks got divorces back then and everyone did the best they could. These were difficult times. I know Ida was instrumental in assisting my Father with buying land in Ward County. I think she encouraged my Father to attend college and get his degree. I suspect she was quiet and loving where Nels was a hard son of a gun.
